Why You May Want to Skip the Last Call at the Bar

By DJ Justin Warwick from DJ Enterprises Mobile Disc Jockey & Photo Booth

Wedding receptions are a time of joy and celebration, and for many people, that includes enjoying a few drinks. However, the tradition of having a “last call” at the bar is one that may not be as necessary as you think. Here are some reasons why you should consider skipping the last call at your wedding reception:

Please Don’t Stop The Party

It Can Be a Buzzkill

When you have the DJ announce last call, it can bring the party to an abrupt end. Guests may start to feel rushed to finish their drinks, and the atmosphere can quickly change from celebratory to somber. This can be especially true if your guests are really enjoying themselves and want to keep the party going.

It Can Be Dangerous

If your guests feel like they have to drink quickly to finish their drinks before last call, they may be more likely to overindulge. This can lead to potential safety concerns, such as guests getting behind the wheel while under the influence. By eliminating the need for a last call, you can help ensure that your guests are able to enjoy themselves responsibly without feeling like they have to rush their drinks.

It Can Be Inconvenient

If you’re having a good time at the reception, the last thing you want is to be forced to stop. Guests may feel like they have to line up at the bar because “Last Call” was announced. Missing the last moments on the dance floor can be a disappointment for them and for you as the newlyweds.

It Can Be Expensive

Weddings can be expensive, and having a last call at the bar can add to the cost. By eliminating the need for a last call, you may be able to save some money on your bar tab. More than one club/bar owner has told me that they make a killing on the “last call.” Plus, your guests may appreciate not having to pay for drinks at the end of the night. Personally, I’d rather spend the last half hour of the night with my guests over standing in line for a drink.

It’s Your Day, So Do What You Want

Ultimately, it’s your wedding day, and you should do what makes you happy. If you and your partner don’t want to have a last call at your reception, then don’t. Your guests will likely be more than happy to continue celebrating with you into the night.

While having a last call at the bar may be a tradition, it’s not one that you have to follow. By skipping the last call, you can keep the party going, ensure that your guests are able to enjoy themselves responsibly, and potentially even save some money. Plus, it’s your wedding day, so do what makes you happy!
