Your DJ Has No Insurance What Could Go Wrong?

By DJ Justin Warwick from DJ Enterprises Mobile Disc Jockey & Photo Booth

As the hiring party, it is important for your DJ to have proper insurance coverage to protect yourself from potential risks and liabilities that may arise during his or her performances. Without insurance, several things could go wrong, including:

Personal Injury: If someone is injured at your event from the DJs equipment or cords, they may sue you for damages. Without your DJ being properly insured. You could be held responsible for paying any settlement or judgment awarded against you.

Property Damage: If your DJ accidentally damage someone’s property, or yours, during a performance. You could be held liable for the cost of repairs or replacement. And event venues aren’t cheap!

Legal Fees: If you are sued or face a legal dispute, you will need to hire an attorney to represent you. Without insurance, you would be responsible for paying these legal fees out of pocket.

Certificate of DJ Insurance

Most, if not all venues will require your DJ to submit a Certificate of Insurance. Coverage should state; Personal Injury of at least $1,000,000 and General Liability of $2,000,000. This usually comes up at the last minute, and at that point if your DJ does not have the proper coverage. You will be looking for a new DJ in desperation. I know, I get calls from couples in this situation every now and then. It’s not a position you want to be in, just a few weeks before your wedding day.

Overall, choosing a DJ not having insurance can leave you vulnerable to financial losses and legal troubles. It’s important to ask your potential DJs upfront about insurance, and if they can provide you with a Certificate of Insurance to protect yourself, your venue, and your guests. And just in case you are wondering, YES, of course I am insured. And YES, I can and will provide you with a certificate of insurance!
